Following its publication in the first Multitude of Voyces anthology, Janet’s piece Alleluia, I Heard a Voice has been receiving numerous performances by many choirs throughout the UK, and further afield. This August, the Rodolfus Choral Course also chose the piece for its summer programme and performed it as an introit at King’s Chapel, Cambridge and Ely Cathedral.
From Spring 2021, Janet has been very pleased to mentor Raj Bhaumik and Samuel Oliver-Sherry, two of the young composers that were shortlisted for the ORA Young Composers Competition. The ten finalists were asked to write a reflection on a Renaissance composition, which provided a fruitful springboard for compositional exploration, discussion, and development. The final took place in July and Janet was delighted that Samuel won the runner-up prize. Congratulations to him and all the…

The Christmas Life is Janet’s setting of a poem by Wendy Cope, describing the excitement of welcoming Christmas into our homes. From…
Approached by Sarah MacDonald before a recording session with soprano Charlie Pemberton at Newnham College, Janet and her daughter, fellow MazeMusic composer Sarah Cattley both wrote a new song for the programme. Like Janet, Sarah is a Newnham alumna, and she chose to set verses by Newnham poet Fredegond Shove. Janet set words by Khalil Gibran, ‘Said a Blade of Grass’. The video of the new works will feature in the 2020 Alumni weekend.
